Evergreen IMAX¨ Theater and Oregon Coast Aquarium
Partner for Unveiling of Sea Monsters 3D
McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Fri., Oct. 5, 2007 Ð The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and the Oregon Coast Aquarium are partnering for the unveiling of the only 3D version that will be shown of National GeographicÕs Sea Monsters in the state of Oregon at a 6pm launch party.
The film, produced by National Geographic, opens October 5 and runs through January at the Evergreen IMAX Theater in McMinnville. Opening night will feature a behind-the-scenes presentation by National Geographic staff, raffles and a hands-on bio facts table.
The 3D film features photo-realistic, computer-generated imagery of 82 million-year-old sea monsters and the ancient world they inhabited woven expertly into live-action sequences to create a fascinating story of life in the most dangerous seas in history. Legendary musician and composer, Peter Gabriel, collaborated with David Rhodes and Richard Evans to produce the film score.
When strange bones are discovered in a muddy Kansas river bank, paleontologists set out to investigate a mystery Òburied in time.Ó Through ultra-realistic 3-D computer animation we travel back to the Late Cretaceous, when the sea was dominated by giant marine reptiles, some as large as present-day whales. The film follows a female Dolichorhynchops (a seal-like reptile) and her offspring through adventures that illustrate life in the sea during the Age of Dinosaurs. Live-action recreations of actual paleontological digs are intercut throughout, revealing the scientific basis for each animated episode. In the end, the bones in Kansas turn out to be those of the featured Dolichorhynchops."
"The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is thrilled to be partnering with the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Not only will we be offering the only 3D version of the film in the state, but we will also be providing additional educational opportunities for our visitors with the inclusion of the AquariumÕs collection of sea creatures,Ó commented Philip Jaeger, Director of Operations.
