A PROPELLING CELEBRATION
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - It’s a whirlwind event as the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville celebrates Helicopter Day, Saturday, Sept. 27.
On Saturday, the Museum will have visiting helicopters on display, including a UH-60 Blackhawk and a Bell 212 aircraft. Event-goers also can take to the sky as the Museum will offer helicopter rides provided by Precision Helicopters from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Helicopter ride tickets are $40 for two passengers or $30 for solo riders.
The special Helicopter Day celebration marks the opening of the traveling MD 500 World Health Organization display at the Evergreen Aviation Museum, which opens to the public at 11 a.m. that day. The display details Oregon-headquartered Evergreen Helicopters, Inc.’s involvement with WHO for over 15 years. The public will be able to see a photo essay of the successful collaboration to eradicate the “Black Fly” and river blindness in Africa.
Helicopter Day festivities are part of the Centennial of Flight 100-day countdown at the Evergreen Aviation Museum. The Museum recently began this special countdown to honor the historic day the Wright Brothers took their invention into flight. The Museum plans to celebrate different facets of aviation through a series of activities that are fun for all ages. Special activities include admission to the cargo deck of the famous “Spruce Goose,” which is open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Museum admission prices have recently changed to $11 for adults, $10 for seniors and veterans, and $7 for students. The new prices include admission onto the Spruce Goose viewing platform as well as tours of more than 45 historic aircraft and exhibits in the Museum gallery.
The Evergreen Aviation Museum has been open since June 6, 2001 and has welcomed more than 450,000 visitors from all over the world. The new address for the Evergreen Aviation Museum is 500 NE Captain Michael King Smith Way.
