Prestigious Aeronautical University Opens Campus

at Evergreen Aviation Museum

In January 2006, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University will begin classes at Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – On Jan. 9, 2006 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest independent aeronautical university, boasting a student body of 30,000 from all 50 states and more than 100 nations, will begin classes at the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and The Captain Michael King Smith Educational Institute will offer Embry-Riddle undergraduate and graduate degrees on-site at the museum and online courses for those students unable to attend classes at the museum.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to offer classes at one of the most unique aviation institutions in the world.  The partnership is an inspiration to our students and our staff.  We look forward to serving students in the area who need a degree in management to advance their careers,” said retired Navy Captain Jerry Bean, Director of Operations at Embry Riddle’s Portland, Ore. Center.

The initial degree offering will include Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics, Bachelor of Science in Technical Management and Master of Aeronautical Science.

The Professional Aeronautics degree is an aviation management degree designed for students who work, have worked, or desire to work in aviation-related careers.  For students with existing aviation-related knowledge and skills, this program recognizes those skills through award of college credit applied to the degree.  The program also provides a path for those students new to aviation to acquire these skills through aviation-related courses.

The Bachelor of Science in Technical Management is designed for students or working adults who have a background in a technical specialty and are looking for opportunities to move into management or supervisory positions.  The program awards credit for prior training or experience, including work experience or military background.

The Master of Aeronautical Science degree is a management degree designed for aviation and aerospace professionals.  This degree enables aviation and aerospace professionals to master the application of concepts, methods and tools used in the development, manufacture and operation of aircraft and spacecraft, as well as the public and business infrastructure that support them.  The degree gives air traffic control personnel, aviation educators, flight crewmembers, flight operations specialists and industry technical representatives the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and pursue additional opportunities.

“All degrees offered at the museum contribute to the mission of The Captain Michael King Smith Educational Institute, which includes inspiring, educating, promoting and preserving aviation history.  The partnership is a giant leap for the educational advancements at Evergreen and we are excited to see this program begin in January of 2006,” said Laureano Mier, Director of Education.
